- <p> He has been called the Dapper Don. But last week JOHN GOTTI
- turned in his well-tailored pinstripes for baggy prison stripes
- after he was sentenced to life without parole for the 1985
- rubout of Gambino crime boss Paul Castellano. The mobster-media
- star smirked silently as Judge I. Leo Glasser lowered the boom,
- while outside the Brooklyn courthouse a thousand irate Gotti
- supporters -- bused in by his son -- redressed their grievances
- by injuring seven police officers and vandalizing the cars of
- U.S. marshals. The Con Don will do his time at the grueling
- federal pen in Marion, Ill. "It's surrounded by quicksand," says
- G-man James Fox. "Southern Illinois is not the friendliest of
- climates. And if he can only shower twice a week . . . " As the
- spent calendars pile up in Gotti's tiny cell, he may come to
- think that Big Paul was the lucky one.
